Gym vs Outdoor Workouts: What’s The Best Way to Work Up A Sweat?

  |     |   Uncategorized

The best kind of workout is the one that you’ll stick with over time. After all, consistency is key when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, getting fit, and even losing weight. That being said, there are some types of workouts that are going to get your metabolism moving at a faster speed than other types of workouts. For the most part, getting outside to work out will help you to burn calories and work up a sweat better than staying indoors.

Exercise is not a one-size-fits-all system. What works well for one person is a horrible choice for the next person—whether due to personal interests or bodily limitations. Gyms do their best to accommodate different preferences. Most gyms will have a series of cardio equipment, free weights, and then a collection of machines for guided weight training. This allows you to go in and set up a routine and get accustomed to working with the different types of equipment. However, there are limitations on how many different workout routines a single gym can provide.

How to get Fit Outdoors

The trick to getting a good workout while outdoors is to find an outdoor area that will inspire you to get outside and get moving. Santa Monica is a beautiful city. Living in an apartment in Santa Monica gives you a small space to call your own, but with easy access to so many natural splendors. Don’t attempt to fill your apartment with free weights and workout equipment. Instead, head to the beach or to a local park and push yourself to workout harder than ever before while getting to know your city better.

Whether on the beach or through the city from your Santa Monica Apartments, going for a jog is a great way to build up a sweat and get your body moving. Running outdoors is often more effective than running on a treadmill simply because when you are out for a jog, there isn’t an option to stop. Completing the jog is necessary to getting back home, and so you’re more likely to run your whole route than you are on a treadmill, where you can easily get sucked into a TV show and then decide to call it quits. There are many beautiful places to run throughout Santa Monica, including Douglas Park, the Santa Monica Stairs, and of course—the beach.

If you aren’t interested in running, going surfing or finding a friend or two to play tennis with at an outdoor court can also help you build up a sweat. There are so many ways that you can focus on getting healthy while staying outside.

Does this mean that you should never exercise indoors? Of course not. It’s important to mix things up and keep your body guessing so that you don’t get bored with your workout routine. A combination of both indoor and outdoor workouts is ideal for people who want to boost their metabolism and lose weight.
